Swapit Traction Update – 160,000 Traders on Swapit

We are proud to announce that Swapit just recently exceeded 160,000 registered traders on our hyperlocal marketplace!

Over the past 12 months, that is an incredible increase of 2,105%! At the same time, all of our other metrics (listings, sold items, chat messages, comments, likes, etc) are growing at least at the same pace. This has a lot to do with our focus on marketplace liquidity and the growing and maturing environment of our still very young marketplace.

Focusing on Growth

I recently tweeted this screen shot on the right. Being super focused on growth and accelerating that growth seems to be paying off.

We’ve done a lot of things recently to ensure more and more people are coming to Swapit and trade their stuff there. We’ve been present at public events, which come with photo ops. We made it easier to share and share to all popular social media, which spreads our Swapit item links (a.k.a. web teasers) and in turn drives more users to Swapit. We’ve brought “Make an Offer” to Swapit, which results in sales closing faster and buyers and sellers being more satisfied with our platform. We’ve made it easier for sellers to cross-post their items into many buy & sell Facebook groups reaching over 700,000 people instantly. We’ve introduced Swapit Alerts, which resulted in higher user engagement – especially on the buyer side – and therefore helps to grow our user base through word of mouth by more satisfied users. We’ve grown the total GMV posted on our platform from $1M to $30M to over $100M. To make it easier for our users to post items on Swapit, we’ve made several changes to the product, which are well received by sellers.

At the same time, we’ve been working with partners to grow our user base. We ran several promotions with happy winners, we’re constantly talking to admins of groups on social media, forums, websites to collaborate. We launched Swapit on the iPhone and its users have an even higher engagement rate. We also placed some great Swapit beach umbrellas across some beaches all over Hong Kong. I am still getting friends asking me about it, because they saw one on a beach. We’ve also gotten some great media coverage over the past months, which always takes a while to kick in.

Upcoming Growth Improvements

Of course, we don’t stop here. We are constantly improving Swapit with one single goal: Increasing our marketplace liquidity. That means making buyers and sellers happier and giving them the right tools to do their trades on our platform and not somewhere else. It also means, making it easy for them to transition to Swapit. Changes in that direction are coming in the very near future. Stay tuned for what’s to come. There will be some more great drafts towards growth.

Swapit has Surpassed 100k Downloads on Google Play

Last weekend was a long weekend and right on Labour Day, Swapit managed to surpass the 100,000 download mark on Google Play. It’s great to see so many people being interested in Swapit and downloading it. Our iOS app is getting better every day, but it’s still not quite ready to launch yet, though. I am absolutely convinced that once we launch on iOS we’ll be doubling our users in a rather short time. So we are working hard on launching on iOS soon. Swapit Traction Update – April 1st +82% User Growth in One Month

On March 1st we had a great 31,810 users on Swapit. Today on April 1st, 2016 Swapit has continued to grow to a good 58,138 users!

Compared to our last month’s 82% growth of users, we managed to grow at a surprisingly steady pace in the past thirty-one days at about 83% month-over-month.

Swapit Traction Update – March 1st +82% User Growth in One Month

On February 1st we had a great 17,481 users on Swapit. Today on March 1st, 2016 Swapit has made an incredible jump up to 31,810 users!

Compared to our last month’s 94% growth of users, we managed to grow at a steady pace in the past thirty days at about 82% month-over-month.

Swapit Traction Update – February 1st +94% User Growth in One Month

On January 1st we had a great 8,987 users on Swapit. Today on February 1st, 2016 Swapit is sporting 17,481 users!

Compared to our last month’s 80% growth of users, we managed to grow even faster in the past thirty days at about 94% month-over-month.

Swapit Traction Update – December 1st +60% User Growth in One Month

On November 1st we had just over 3,000 users on Swapit. Today on December 1st Swapit is sporting 4,990 users!

November was a great month with very good growth for Swapit. We will keep working hard on growing the Swapit user base in our unique marketplace for pre-loved and new items.

Coping with a Constantly Increasing Flow of Pre-Loved Items

Every day swapit receives many new items being posted all over Hong Kong. Here is a quick map that shows how these new item posts distribute across the main populated areas of Hong Kong:

In simple numbers, swapit’s growth is now:

• 0.7% new users per day (22.7% new users per month)
• 3.5% new item posts per day (107% new item posts per month)

It is great to see that swapit is expanding its catalog of products and user base constantly. We had been actively reaching out our target audience over the past couple of months, but we have stopped doing that about two weeks ago. We wanted to see how our organic growth rates are performing without any additional effort through our outreach efforts. That seems to prove at least some stickiness and value of swapit with our existing user base who is passing information about swapit via word-of-mouth.

To cope with the ever constant increase in users, content and activity on our platform, we don’t actually have to do much additional work. In my previous blog post “Choosing a platform for swapit.” I explained how we considered different platforms and finally went to go ahead with the Google Cloud Platform in terms of backend. This now allows us to focus on the important (business) parts of swapit and not being stuck with technology challenges that many of our competitors are facing.

Swapit has built with hundreds of thousands of users in mind and on an extremely scalable platform that automatically adapts itself to a larger number of users and content.
